Strong Storms Hit the Greater Houston Area!
Last night, a severe storm blew through the Greater Houston area, particularly in the Bush Intercontinental Airport and David Wayne Hooks airport areas. At The Woodlands, Texas offices of Thomas M. Fountain & Associates, PLLC, we experienced these high winds and rain as well. Winds at Bush were reported to be gusting to 54 MPH. The winds at David Wayne Hooks Airport (Tomball, Texas) reached in excess of 40 MPH. Trees were down in various locations in the northern parts of Harris County and southern Montgomery County, Texas.
While homes are designed typically to withstand winds in these ranges, the collateral damages from a fallen tree in a weakened state may cause damages to a structure, such as a residential home.
This would be an excellent time to examine one’s home to determine if any damage occurred due to such an incident by examining the interior of your home and attic as well as the exterior.
We also would highly recommend being aware of roof scams where a “roofing company” will knock on your door and offer to inspect for damages to your roof. We are aware of occasions where some individuals actually pull up the roofing shingles and then claim to your insurer that the damages were caused by high winds.
We would recommend that, if necessary, you ask for assistance from an established roofing company to perform any inspections. If available, videotaping the inspection would be the gold standard for your protection.
